CIVIL Service moved top of the Fulford Ladies Invitation League third division on games difference when they beat Poppleton 64-44 and New Earswick 73-35.

Wendy Catchpole and Jackie Ritchie, one of the league's most consistent pairs, won 30 games in the New Earswick match and 23 against Poppleton.

Barbara Leopard and Natasha Twigg laid the foundation of the victory against New Earswick, winning 8-4 in the first round.

Dunnington took revenge for defeat against Bubwith earlier in the season with a 77-33 which leaves them top of division one.

First string Sue Sumner and Judy McHenry top scored for Dunnington with 27 games while Sheelagh Stephenson and Denise Bolam (25 games) and Nicola Loten and Linda Molloy (23 games) gave great support.

Wendy Stirke and Louise Lister were in good form for York, winning 30 games in the 68-40 win over Poppleton.

Tadcaster, strengthened by the arrival of Deb Rutherford, hammered Knaresborough 79-29. She teamed up with Sheila Stuart and rattled up 8-4, 9-3 and 7-5 victories.

Two injury-hit sides, Fulford and Bishopthorpe, had a close tussle with Fulford edging it 57-51. Jackie Heels and Julie Reilly won 28 games and Jeanne Loadman made her first team debut partnering captain Beryl Bean and had a couple of good wins but found the hard-hitting Sue Yoward and Chris Smith on top form.

Castlegarth, the only unbeaten team in division two, beat Rowntree Park 62-46 and are four points clear and a match in hand over the chasing pack of three clubs.

Riccall won their ninth match in a row as they continue to dominate division four. They had little trouble in beating Fulford 76-32 with unbeaten Sue Warren and Jennifer Alstead amassing 28 games.

Sheriff Hutton's strength in depth paid off as they defeated Strensall 63-45 with Pauline Hull and Jo Johnson winning 9-3 7-5 10-2 and team-mates Ellie Batty and Sandra Meads finishing the match in style with a 10-2 final round victory.

In division five Heworth beat Knaresborough 62-46 to move into third place.

The highlight was Susannah Dale and Lucy Collier's 8-4 8-4 11-1 wins.
