Fulford Tennis Club is hoping to unearth a new Tim Henman this weekend.
The club is hosting Play Tennis 2001, Britain's biggest free tennis campaign.
The Play Tennis initiative has been launched by the Lawn Tennis Association and anyone who fancies having a go at the sport can try it at Fulford between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday, July 14.
Local organiser Terry Haw said: "Play tennis offers great opportunities for the people of the York area to pick up a racket and have a go.
"I hope that the promotion will inspire lots of new players, especially kids, to take advantage of a free introduction to the sport. We hop that with Wimbledon in everybody's mind, people will want to get out and see how much fun tennis can be."
