Osbaldwick Primary School football team lifted a trophy for the first time in five years when they won the under-11s Atkinson Ariels Cup for schools in south east York.
A goal by Jake Raisbeck against Fulford St Oswald's gave them a 1-0 win in the final after both teams had won through the round robin stage of the seven-a-side tournament.
The two finalists had earlier drawn 0-0 in the group stage, with Osbaldwick going on to beat Fishergate 2-0 and S Aelred's 1-0 to finish top while St Oswald's drew 0-0 with St Aelred's and beat Fishergate 6-0 to secure second spot and a final place. The other group game saw St Aelred's beat Fishergate 3-0.
As cup winners, Osbaldwick will now host next year's competition, and they could well start it as favourites as every player in the nine-strong squad, apart from captain Jordan Barrett, will still be eligible to play.
