England, including Malton and Norton's Emma Duggleby, gave another fine performance to move smoothly into the quarter-finals of the European Ladies Team Championship over the Meis Course Pontevedra in Spain.

Leading the English charge was 22-year-old Curtis Cup international Rebecca Hudson from Doncaster who returned a level-par 72, despite a double bogey six at the third.

Chesterfield's Fame More, 19, did well to return a 73 while reigning European individual champion Duggleby was steady for her 74.

England completed the two-day qualifying phase with a score of 752, just two strokes behind Sweden and one adrift of Spain.

England will face Italy for a place in the semi-finals today while Scotland take on France and Wales meet Sweden.

Meanwhile, Duggleby's Malton and Norton colleague Simon Dyson has risen to 88th in the Volvo Order of merit with earnings of £75,811.04 following his latest outing.

Dyson won £2,988.50 after finishing joint 76th in the Smurfit European Open at Dublin.

He will be hoping to climb even further when he competes in the Scottish open at Loch Lomond, starting today. Dyson was one of the later starters this afternoon.

Heavy rain delayed the start of the £2.2m tournament this morning.
