York succumbed to the pace bowling of Sheffield United's Zimbabwean Piete Swanepoel in their Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County Premier League game at Sheffield.

Swanepoel took six for 74 in 25 overs as York were restricted to 158 all out in a game that was held up four times by rain, Sheffield going on to win by six wickets.

In the face of Swanepoel's attack York had scored only nine after eight overs before Marcus Wood was caught behind by wicketkeeper Rod King off Paul Eastwood.

York began to lose wickets at regular intervals after this. The highlight of their innings was a stand of 71 for the ninth wicket in 12 overs between skipper Nigel Durham (28 not out) and Michael Mortimer, who was top scorer with 45 runs.

King took four catches and former Scarborough batsman Chris Watson, who is now skipper at United, held three catches at first slip.

Three York batsmen - Nick Kay, Rob Flack and Greg How - were out for ducks.

Former York opening batsman Alexis Twigg and Martin Barlow put on 58 in 15 overs for Sheffield United's first wicket.

Watson hit 28 off 23 deliveries and with Longhurst (19) put on 45 for the third wicket.

King and Swanepoel scored 47 in an unbeaten fifth wicket stand.

Harrogate and Sheffield Collegiate continued their neck and neck race for the title by gaining a maximum eight points each out of Appleby Frodingham and Cleethorpes respectively.

Harrogate opener John Inglis carried his bat for 161 not out which included five sixes and 18 fours.

Rotherham's Mark Smallman bowled right through and took nine for 69 in 28 overs against Scarborough, whose Chris Clifford and Rob Barlow held on to deny Smallman all ten wickets.
