Dunnington Primary School sports teams have handed Physical Education co-ordinator Joyce Botham a super send-off by winning seven tournaments out of seven.

Mrs Botham, a year five teacher, is set to leave the school to take up a headship at Sutton on the Forest PS. In her last year at Dunnington, she led the school's

football, cricket, rounders, netball and athletics teams to success in the Derwent Sports Association competitions.

The football team, captained by Daniel Linfoot, won the six-a-side league having won 13, drawn two and lost just one match throughout the campaign. Andrew Nichols top scored with ten of their 49 goals while they conceded just one at the other end.

They were also joint winners of the six-a-side cup with Stamford Bridge after beating Heslington 6-0 and Wheldrake 1-0 - skipper Scott Nichols scoring five - and drawing 0-0 with the Bridge.

Leading wicket-taker Robert Chipps captained the cricket team in the eight-a-side league, which they won jointly with Stamford Bridge, while Andrew Milne skippered them to victory in the six-a-side tournament in which Adam Sutcliffe was the chief destroyer with the ball.

Anna Jackson led her team to victory in the rounders rally, winning three games out of three, while Natalie Noble did likewise for the netball team, again with three wins out of three.

Finally in the athletics' championships, which involved 15 schools in the Derwent area, Julia Chipps captained the team to overall victory, which they shared with Fulford St Oswald's.

Josh Barrett, Alex Low, Nassira Cheref led the way with victories in their respective sprints, while Katherine Low, Julia Chipps, Robert Chipps and Scott Nichols took third places.

"The children, staff and parents have worked really hard to achieve this season's glory and I'm very proud of the team spirit throughout the school," said Mrs Botham.
