They grabbed their chance after previous leaders Dunnington lost 66-42 to Tadcaster for whom Jane Firn and Debbie Young were in prime form, winning 9-3 9-3 and 10-2.

Helen Leach and Sarah Dwyer amassed 26 games as York beat Bubwith 65-43.

Margaret Hall and Anna Airasinen were Bubwith's top performers with 20 games.

Knaresborough are still hunting their first win of the season after losing 64-44 against Fulford, whose Julie Reilly and Anna Baker only dropped six games.

Hilary Spooner and Jade Mullarkey won 25 games as Poppleton defeated Bishopthorpe 73-35.
