THE Government has been flooded with letters of support for Ian Stillman,who has been jailed in India for alleged cannabis possession.
Foreign Office Minister Ben Bradshaw said he had been contacted by 185 MPs
on behalf of their constituents.
Mr Bradshaw has also received correspondence from church groups, members of the public and Mr Stillman's family.
His parents, Roy and Monica, live at Dringhouses, York.
Mr Bradshaw revealed the depth of the support for Mr Stillman in a series of Parliamentary answers.
He had been asked by New Forest West Conservative MP Desmond Swayne what the
Government was doing to try to secure the release of Mr Stillman, who was jailed in August last year.
He was refused bail last week, but has an appeal hearing scheduled for the week beginning September 24.
