Civic recognition came a step closer for two of York's most famous figures last night.
At the full meeting of City of York Council, Coun Mark Waudby called for actor Dame Judi Dench and composer John Barry to be given the freedom of the city.
He said: "This council notes with gratitude the work Dame Judi Dench and Mr John Barry have done in promoting the interests of the people and the City of York over many years and recognises their significant contribution to public life."
Coun Waudby called for a special meeting of the council to discuss whether they could be made Honorary Freemen.
The Lord Mayor, Coun Irene Waudby, told members the issue would be brought before the council's executive.
