I ATTENDED the big book sale at St. Martin-cum-Gregory Church in Micklegate, York, in aid of Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum.
There were thousands of books on all topics, many, of course, on religious issues.
The sheer numbers meant there was no strict sorting by subject, so was it by chance or design, I wonder, after thumbing past bibles, concordance and prayer books, that I came across a copy of Carpentry For Beginners?
