YORK City will have another exciting pre-season fixture to look forward to following Middlesbrough's 3-0 win at Scarborough in the North Riding FA Senior Cup semi-final last night.

The Minstermen, already through the semi-finals thanks to their shoot-out defeat of Whitby Town on Friday, will now travel to take on the Teesside giants in the final on a date to be arranged.

Last night's game proved costly for Scarborough as young defender Danny Brunton broke his leg late on and will be out indefinitely, while goalkeeper Andy Woods dislocated a finger, ruling him out for a week, and Gareth Stoker needed two stitches in a head wound.

Seasiders boss Neil Thompson said: "Danny's injury is a big blow, especially for him. He played quite a few games for us last season and did great and he was going to play a big part for us this year. He's a really nice lad and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Brunton was kept in Scarborough hospital overnight and had X-rays to assess the damage. The results of those tests are not yet known.

Middlesbrough had taken a number of first teamers with them to the McCain Stadium, including Robbie Mustoe and Cameroon international Joseph Desire Job, and they set up the third goal for youngster Luke Wilkshire.

Midfielder Mark Hudson had opened the scoring following a free-kick by Irish international Keith O'Neill, and former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan made it 2-0 with a free-kick.
