Division two's top two teams Drax and Fulfordgate clashed with Drax posting a resounding win.

Keith Pepper and Pete Fairburn started brightly for the 'Gate but support was distinctly lacking. Phil Chaston and Mick Brook ran through the order as the visitors lost seven wickets for 14 runs.

Drax lost an early wicket, but a partnership of 71 between John Finch and Kevin Thomas took them to the brink of victory achieved with eight wickets to spare.

Thorpe Willoughby eased into second spot after their seven-wicket win at Kelfield, who were all out for 88. Dave Watson snagged 5 for 18 from 16 immaculate overs, nine of which were maidens. Garry Turner hit an unbeaten 49 as Thorpe coasted home.

An impressive opening stand of 98 between Simon Kidby (88) and Neil Ashton (22) gave Wheldrake a solid base which Colin Markham (48no) built upon to see them to 196 for 3 at tea at Thixendale.

The hosts slipped to 65 for 5 with only Les Milburn showing any resolve. Graham Lyndsey helped Milburn take the score to 101. But then four wickets fell in as many runs to Neil Exton as Wheldrake took maximum points to stay in the promotion race.

York Post Office brushed aside British Sugar with ease. Sugar were all out for 78, wickets shared between Mike Hamshere, David Hughes and Ray Baggaley. The Post men won by five wickets.

Westow's Derek Midgley top scored with 55 no in their 145-6 against Clifton Alliance.

But despite wickets from Colin Smallwood Clifton countered through Paul Walton. He hit an unbeaten 73 which included five sixes to seal a six-wicket win.
