NURSE Luke Orwin is off on a ten-day African trek to raise money for the children's ward at York District Hospital.

Luke, 26, works on the ward and will be joining a team of walkers from all over the country for the trek across Namibia in temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius.

The trip is being organised by the Starlight Children's Foundation, which grants wishes to children, and supplies entertainment equipment for seriously ill children.

Luke, of Huntington Road, York, needs to raise £2,500 before he sets off in February next year.

He said: "I see this as a fantastic challenge and am really looking forward to the adventure. I'm hoping to be able to brighten up the lives of children who are seriously ill. I am working with these children every day, so I know how important this money will be to them."

Luke is currently in training at Courtney's Gym, Monks Cross. Anyone interested in sponsoring him can telephone 07811 280421 or email on lukeo@onet.co.uk
