HEALTH Secretary Alan Milburn says Labour has the full support of the doctors and nurses for the way they are running the National Health Service.
Consultant pathologist Dr Craig Platt has submitted his nomination to run against Mr Milburn in his Darlington constituency.
New Labour Cabinet ministers like to run away from real people. Alan Milburn's refusal to face the Royal College of Nursing at Harrogate was the latest of many recent examples.
Dodging the nurses is typical of the Health Secretary. In true New Labour style, Mr Milburn ignores the views of NHS staff - their only role is to do what he tells them. Well, Alan Milburn will have to stop running now. He will be forced to listen to someone with real experience, who represents an increasingly angry and disillusioned medical profession.
Alan Milburn will also be obliged to defend his mishandling of the NHS in front of his own constituents. He will not be looking forward to either challenge.
