BECAUSE my old school, Nunthorpe Grammar, had its status changed a few years ago, it is difficult to find any references to it on the Internet.

The only ones I find are in CVs posted by ex-pupils, mostly all older than me, but some more recent - I left in 1970.

It's as if it was never there, which is why it was so reassuring and exciting to read about Geoff Ferry and Steve McClaren (July 21).

I really enjoyed my six years at Nunthorpe - it gave me a vast range of experiences including my first trips to France and Germany; some extrovert and even eccentric - but effective - teachers; joyous memories of playing for the School Second XI football team (once...) and the appearance of a famous rock band at our school farewell bash where a gowned teacher appeared on the stage to order the group's drummer to "put some clothes on or leave..."

If there is a dedicated website or pages for Nunthorpe, please let me know.
