CHOCOLATE bars of the future have been designed by a group of youngsters taking part in a literacy summer school.

A group of 24 children, who are preparing to join Burnholme School, Heworth, in September, have spent the past two weeks improving their literacy. But yesterday, as a reward for all their hard work they were asked to design a new chocolate bar, with the winners receiving certificates, book tokens and a hearty supply of chocolate.

Competition entries included a Body Bar, which was chocolate in the shape of body parts, and the exotic sounding Venus Bar.

But the winner was a mint bar called Utterly Bubbly.

Karen Richmond, who co-ordinated the scheme with her colleague Pat Leeming, invited her father Barry, technical development manager for Kit Kat at Nestl Rowntree, to judge the designs and present the prizes.

Mrs Leeming said: "The summer school was for pupils coming up to Burnholme in September."
