THE only match in division one of the Tyke Petroleum Men's League brought a win for Knaresborough over Wigginton.

Ian Tooms and Stuart Conacher were top-scorers for Wigginton with 20, but lost to Knaresbo-rough's first couple. York now go bottom with four clubs battling to avoid the two relegation places.

Division two leaders Poppleton II did not need York II to have only two pairs, but the 36 games conceded improved their average. A week later York II had a full squad against Copmanthorpe but could manage only 28 games. Copmanthorpe's Carol Addison and Graham Butcher scored 29.

Appleton Roebuck took first place in division three by 15 games after their 78-30 win over Wilberfoss. Paul Harrison and Dave Bradley scored 28, John Giles and Peter Ziegler 26. John Latham and Brian Walker did well to score 16 of Wilberfoss' 30.

In division four Castlegarth II and Wigginton II, rivals for the second place behind untouchable Boston Spa, drew. Wigginton's Andy Walker and Richard Smith scored 23. The point is more valuable to Wigginton, who have two games in hand. Also with two games in hand, Appleton Roebuck II lost to Strensall II 61-47. Owen Bergar and Daniel Pillai scored 24.

Division five leaders Knaresborough II beat second-placed Selby 59-49, but Selby's position was helped when Civil Service defeated third-placed Cliffe 58-50 with Charlie Dixon and Steve Gagan again best with 25.

At the lower end Rufforth scraped home at Dunnington III by 55-53. David and Chris (aged 14) Laws top-scored with 22. Dunnington are unlucky to be averaging 50 games per match, but having only three wins.

Sheriff Hutton moved strongly along with a good win at Starbeck, who were looking fair for promotion. Chris Burnham and Kevin Fairclough topped the week's scoring with 32 out of 88. Boston Spa II managed the same score against New Earswick II to stay top of three clubs on 18 points. Sheriff Hutton and Starbeck have 16 points. Nestl beat Wheldrake II 60-48 to put them both in the top three; 10-2 from Clive Christison and Ken Drake with the scores at 48-all was the crucial result. Knaresborough III had to concede their second consecutive match in favour of New Earswick II.
