Wistow have taken the division six title in the IT Sports York and District Mixed Tennis League after winning their final match of the season against Heworth.

They finished one point above Riccall, who have secured the second promotion spot after their defeat of Bishopthorpe.

Wistow defeated Heworth 71-37, led by Steve and Janet Falkingham who won 26 games, just ahead of Eric Fletcher and Jill Marsden.

Riccall went to Bishopthorpe and took the points with a 72-36 win with their first pair of Terry Knowles and Michelle Hall winning 27 games.

Fulford will finish in third place after they ended their programme with a 60-48 win against Dunnington with Neil Haw and Julie Reilley remaining unbeaten in a close match.

They then lost to rivals Tadcaster 70-38 whose best couple, Ian and Debbie Young, were in great form winning 26 games.

Sutton on Derwent have the relegation issue in their own hands with three games still to play after winning their match with Sherburn 62-46, led by Paul Swift and Val French.

Two of the teams they still have to play, Rowntree Park and Poppleton, are also still in the frame for the second relegation place with Castlegarth despite Castlegarth beating York 62-46.

Civil Service have claimed the second promotion place in division three behind champions Dunnington seconds after Dunnington defeated contenders Poppleton 75-33.

It was all change in division seven with Fulford lifting the title after winning 66-42 at Tollerton thanks to in-form Martin Evans and Janet Hare remaining unbeaten.

Previous leaders Wigginton beat Strensall but played an ineligible player thus reversing the result. They were one of four teams to fall foul of the eligibility rule this week.

Rufforth have come with a late surge and beat Tadcaster 57-51 to go third.

Tollerton ensured their divisional status with a 58-30 victory against Sheriff Hutton to leave Sheriff Hutton in one of the automatic relegation spots along with Wistow after the latter lost to Strensall 62-46.

Tadcaster must wait for Sheriff Hutton and Wistow to play their re-arranged fixture to discover their plight as only two big wins for Sheriff Hutton will avoid their relegation.

Division eight will go down to the last hit of the ball with four teams still in the promotion hunt.

Civil Service lead Sutton on Derwent by a games difference of two. Sutton consolidated second place with wins against Strensall (76-32) and promotion rivals Castlegarth (68-40), and look favourites for the title with the easier of the final matches to play.

Civil Service beat an under-strength Riccall 91-17 to head the table but have a difficult looking fixture tonight against Castlegarth, who kept their hopes alive with a 65-43 win at Strensall.
