RAILTRACK believes a major redevelopment scheme in York will not be jeopardised by new powers for the Rail Regulator, Tom Winsor.
Under the changes, the Regulator's consent will be required when Railtrack wants to sell off important areas of land.
He says he wants to ensure that land, which may be critical to the development of railways, is not lost.
Where Railtrack needs the Regulator's specific consent for land disposal, it must give him at least three months written notice. The Regulator will then consult interested parties before reaching a conclusion.
Railtrack has accepted the proposed modification to its network licence. A spokeswoman said it did not envisage the changes having an impact on the large-scale proposals to redevelop a teardrop-shaped area of land behind York Railway Station with offices and housing.
