SLOWLY, the continental culture seeps into York society. Last month, The Quarter reverberated to samba rhythms during Fiesta Latina, and the continental market was a popular draw.
Now York's caf society is set to expand. Pizza Hut is the latest restaurant with al fresco ambitions. Councillors are being urged to approve its application for outdoor seats.
Unfortunately, the council did not think to ask the York Blind And Partially Sighted Society for its input: this should now be sought.
Other critics say the plan will make Parliament Street too crowded. Well, only when the sun shines. And on those rare days, we should come over all continental, stop rushing about, sit down and enjoy our wonderful surroundings.
