York Acorn Running Club vets look set to finish in the top three out of 20 teams with five races to go after competing in the Yorkshire Veteran 5.2 mile hilly, multi-terrain race at Pudsey.

Acorn's Bob Duncan was second in 30 mins 07 secs, followed by team-mates Andy Normandale (fourth, 30.51), Jerry Barnes (eighth, 31.51), John Duston (29th, 35.18) and Les Burton 39th. Neil Strange of Knavesmire Harriers won the race in 29.37 with Wakefield now well ahead in the series.

Acorn's Nick Ford successfully completed the 26th Snowdon International Race in just under two hours from a field of about 500 competitors.

Starting from Llanberis, the off-road course with 3,500 feet of climb, he ran five miles up Mount Snowdon, then five miles down.
