Riccall beat Sheriff Hutton in division four of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League and have bounced back into division three where they were relegated from last season.

Keeping their 100 per cent record they put Sheriff nearer the drop along with Poppleton who were beaten by Dunnington 65-43.

Rena Booman and Judith Moks had three hard fought wins to help Dunnington pull away from the bottom.

Strensall lost in a close battle at Fulford. Fulford's Patricia Brisbane and Pam Mason were the top scorers winning 10-2 6-6 9-3.

Knaresborough are down in division two next season after losing at Poppleton in a close match.

Only Sue Peach and Jenny Jones managed to win all their three rubbers.

Dunnington visited Fulford with both clubs in second and third spots just behind York. Going into the third round it was 36 games each. Julie Reilly and Jackie Heels along with Jill McCreedy and Linda Irving battled for every point and both pairs had very good 9-3 wins.

This left third string Beryl Bean and Eileen Lavender to take on Dunnington number one's Denise Bolam and Suzie Booth and they gave their best before losing 9-3.

However, it was enough to clinch a 57-51 victory and move Fulford into second place.

York were given a close match when Tadcaster visited Clifton Park. Louise Lister and Wendy Stirke had three wins and Debbie Young and Jane Firn, Tadcaster's number one's, had two, but just lost 5-7 to Lister and Stirke.

Pocklington still lead division five after beating Copmanthorpe 78-30.

Heworth lost to Appleton Roebuck 61-47. Pauline Connolly and Mary Jane Murray got Appleton off to a good start, winning 9-3 in the first round.

Ann Musgrave and Tricia Davis had an 8-4 win the second round and to finish a good team effort Ruth Jackson and Alison Naughton won 8-4 in the last round.
