Scarborough back in race

They pulled six points back on current leaders and defending champions Sheffield Collegiate who crashed to a shock 17 run defeat at Rotherham.

Collegiate lead with 131 points from 25 games, just seven ahead of Scarborough who have a match in hand. Sheffield United, who have two more games to play than Collegiate are third on 112.

Scarborough beat Barnsley by three wickets as one-time favourites for the crown, Harrogate, were also on the end of a shock defeat as they went down by three wickets at home to Castleford.

Skipper Mark Cowell top scored for Scarborough with an unbeaten 59 as they successfully overhauled bottom club Barnsley's total of 145.

Rob Barlow took four Barnsley wickets for 49 in 15.2 overs supported by three wickets apiece from Harrison and Clifford.

After building up their supporters' hopes of an end of season flourish, York followed last week's best performance of the season with what could only count as their worst as they plunged to a 105 run defeat at Cleethorpes.

After a bright start York had seven Cleethorpes' batsmen back in the pavilion for 85 until wicketkeeper, Graham Wilson (74) and Jon Davies (42) put on 87 in what proved to be a match-winning partnership that saw Cleethorpes end with a total of 224 for 9.

York lost their front five batsmen for a mere 47 in 19 overs with Nick Kay reaching 33 to be their top scorer as York eventually crumbled to 119 all out.

Harrogate suffered their eighth defeat of the season when they went down by three wickets to Castleford at St George's Road.

Harrogate batted first for 145 after Tim Gray had taken 7 for 50 in 17.5 overs. John Proud scored 42 for Harrogate.
