THE final matches in division eight of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League resolved the final promotion and relegation issues with Sutton on Derwent taking the title on games difference from Civil Service after they defeated Cawood 78-30.

Sutton were led by Sally Simpson and Nick Hobson's 28 games. They were just ahead of Sam Kettlewell and Dave Nowel, while the third pair of Julie Buxton and Mark Pryce were also unbeaten.

York have finished in third place just one point behind the promoted teams after a draw at Strensall in a very competitive match with no couple dominating.

Cawood's loss at Riccall ensured that Dunnington will stay in the division.

York, who have regained the division one title they last held in 1997, ended their campaign with a 64-44 win against Dunnington.

York's best couple of the season, Wendy Shepherd and Andy Cooke, headed the scoring with 26 games. Dunnington's Nicola Loten and Jonny Sumner won 20 games.

Wheldrake finished as division ten runners-up on games' difference behind Fulford after they finished with a 59-49 victory away to Wistow.

That completed the double for their club with their first team also gaining promotion.

Wheldrake's Caroline Hadlington and Steve Smye just outscored Dorothy Fell and Marvin Huggins with Lynne Morris and Andrew Hill completing the winning scores.

Wistow's best performers were Alison Beal and Neil Richardson.

Meanwhile, clubs are reminded that those who still hold trophies should return them to the league secretary.

And those clubs who are unable to attend the presentation evening to receive trophies should also inform the league secretary.

The Graham Wykes tournament final will be held at Dunnington on Sunday, September 9, 2.30pm start.

The IT Sports League presentation evening is to be held on Friday, October 19.
