York Tennis Club had one of their best results for years when they defeated Heaton, who included county players Richard Oades and Gary Henderson, 8-1 in a Yorkshire League division one match at Bradford.
York, who had never previously beaten Heaton, have now won four and lost two of their fixtures.
With two matches to play they are now certain of their place in division one for next season.
Scores (Heaton names first): R Oades and K Boyle lost to S Smith and A Cooke 6-4 3-6 2-6, lost to P Blackett and G Adams 0-6 0-6 conceded, beat A Precious and N Pears 6-3 6-1. G Henderson and G Cowling lost to Smith-Cooke 4-6 2-6; lost to Blackett-Adams 6-3 5-7 5-7, lost to Precious-Pears 0-6 0-6 (conceded). F Keery and J Solgy lost to Smith-Cooke 2-6 1-6, lost to Blackett-Adams 3-6 4-6, lost to Precious-Pears 2-6 4-6.
