PASSENGERS confused by First York's new Metro timetable displays are to be given the chance to air their views following a U-turn by bus bosses.

Chiefs at the James Street company have revealed they could consider changing the information they give at bus stops - if enough people are unhappy.

First York wants to hear from people having trouble with the displays at stops across the city.

For plans are afoot to hold a focus group meeting, where frustrated commuters will be able to quiz company officials.

In Saturday's Evening Press, we reported how many commuters, puzzled by vague timetable displays, did not actually know when their bus was meant to arrive.

Under the present system, passengers at some stops are not told when their bus is due.

Instead they have to use route maps to calculate the approximate time.

A First York spokesman had claimed the timetable was what people asked for during a consultation exercise about the new network.

Now they have acknowledged that there have been a number of complaints from the public about the displays and want people to get in touch.

A First York spokesman said: "We want anyone who has complained about the displays to get in touch with us.

"We will consider their views, probably bringing them all together in a focus group-style of meeting.

"It is worth stating that it takes time for any changes to settle in, and we do not want to rush into further change.

"However we do want the Metro to be easy to understand, and if our customers can help in this, as they did during the public consultation period, then we welcome their involvement."

People with views are asked to contact John Fletcher at First York on (01904) 435631.
