Former City manager Denis Smith has been appointed Brian Flynn's successor at Wrexham.
Smith was in charge at Bootham Crescent from 1982 to 1987, leading the Minstermen to the Division Four championship in 1983-84, when they became the first club to break the 100 point barrier.
Smith, 53, previously had spells in charge at Sunderland, Oxford United, Bristol City and West Bromwich Albion.
City's Third Division rivals, Southend United, who visit Bootham Crescent a week on Saturday, are currently managerless following the shock resignation of David Webb.
The former Chelsea ace has been at Roots Hall for just over one year, taking over from ex-City chief Alan Little.
Former Norwich midfielder Rob Newman has been placed in temporary charge.
