PICKERING Town's charge up the Northern Counties East League premier division is gathering pace, after Jimmy Reid's men beat leaders Hallam 3-0.

The Pikes kept their 100 per cent record intact with a battling display which saw them keep their fourth clean sheet from five league matches.

Mark Wood opened the scoring, while Simon Sturdy doubled their lead from a Gavin Dickinson corner.

Adam Wash sealed the result when he poked the ball home after the Hallam 'keeper had spilled Thomas Reid's initial shot.

Jimmy Reid said: "We are doing well at the moment and are not conceding goals, which is good in any league.

"We're delighted with the way things are going but we can't be complacent. We have to just keep banging away."

Selby Town bounced back from their first league defeat with a 1-0 win at Borrowash Victoria.

Peter Collier's first-half goal was enough to give the Robins the points.

The win lifts them back into second place just a point behind leaders Hallam, but Bob Lyon's men have the luxury of games in hand on their South Yorkshire rivals.

Goole picked up a point from their clash against Sheffield, the match ending goalless, while in division one Tadcaster Albion crashed to a 4-1 defeat against high-flying Hatfield.

Nestl Rowntree are continuing to climb the West Yorkshire League premier division table following their 7-0 rout of Bardsey.

Steve Ward (3), Colin Rayner (2), Brent Terry and Martin Cowl all netted as Nestl played their best football of the season.

"We played some lovely football, it was a pleasure to watch," said assistant boss Jon Reynolds. "We scored seven goals, kept a clean sheet and picked up three points, what could be better!"

Carlton Athletic managed to snatch a 3-1 victory over Knaresborough Town, leaving the visitors cursing their luck.

Gavin Chittick, Andy Blair and Vernol Blair netted for the league leaders, with the latter also having a penalty saved by debutant Mark Latimer.

Town, who had the majority of the possession, scored through Darren Clifford and with the scores at 2-1 had a goal controversially disallowed.

There was a 12-goal thriller in division one, but unfortunately for York Railway Institute they conceded most of them in an 11-1 defeat against Robin Hood Athletic.

With four players not turning up, manager Paul Clamp was left with a much-depleted side and it showed.

"When I turned up we had the bare bones of a side - about four decided to stay in the pub and watch the Leeds match," said Clamp.

"I'm not happy with tem over this."

Danny Leach scored the home side's only goal.
