With York RI's cup opponents disqualified giving RI passage to the Vase third round, the second XV lost 22-13 to visiting Selby.
RI took a lead after five minutes when Angus Smith fed Nick Humphries who drew his opponent and passed to Howard Reed to score. Humphries squeezed over soon after to make it 10-0.
But a penalty by Adamson after 15 minutes reduced the arrears, then after RI transgressed at the scrum Selby took a quick tap and Connor scrambled over under the posts. Adamson converted to level the scores.
RI fell behind just before half time when Adamson kicked his second of five successful penalties.
The second half was touch and go, but the difference between the sides was the boot of Adamson. He sent over another three penalties to one by Stuart Watson in reply.
