THE start of the legal year was marked by the traditional York procession of lawyers, dressed in full legal robes.
Senior judges and barristers walked from the city's Assembly Rooms to York Minster for their annual ceremony.
They came from across the North Eastern Circuit, which stretches from Northumberland to Yorkshire and is the only one in the country to take part in an event like this.
The lawyers were joined by the York civic party.
The Minster service was conducted by the Dean of York, the Very Rev Raymond Furnell, before the procession returned to the Assembly Rooms for lunch.
