A PEACE contingent from York has taken part in England's biggest anti-war demonstration since the Cold War.
The group of 50, calling itself York Against the War, marched beside up to 50,000 protesters in London at the weekend.
They included York socialists, CND supporters and students.
Frank Ormston, who stood for the Socialist Alliance in this year's General Election and who is now a member of York Against the War, said: "Scores of thousands of people from all over the country united to show their opposition to this barbaric war."
The York group today starts a prolonged campaign against the war.
This evening, a vigil will be held in Parliament Street.
It will continue every week until the military action in Afghanistan ends.
And weekly meetings are being held by the group in the Friends' Meeting House on Wednesdays.
A concert promoting peace is also being held at York St John College on Wednesday by a group calling itself Students Against the War.
