York Wasps are planning one last hurrah in aid of Alan Pallister's testimonial fund.

The hooker is coming towards the end of his testimonial year at the club and in a final fling to boost his coffers the Wasps are organising a three-course dinner, with entertainment, to be held on Thursday, October 25, at Huntington Stadium.

The guests will include well-known after dinner speaker Dave Kendall, who is a big Wasps, fan, and there will also be an auction of numerous sporting goodies.

Although the full list is not yet confirmed, lots already include an Australian World Cup shirt; signed shirts from Leigh Centurions and Oldham; a signed Everton FC football; a tour of Middlesbrough FC's Riverside Stadium; a Celtic FC video and poster; golf equipment; and tickets for York City.

Tickets, priced £15, can be bought through the club, telephone 01904 634636.

Pallister, who this week signed a new one-year deal with the Wasps to begin his 13th season at Huntington Stadium, has not had the best of testimonial years due to the club's well-documented financial troubles. But with those problems now out of the way, it is hoped his tribute will finish with a flourish.

"His testimonial year finishes at the end of this month and we wanted to do something for him," said chief executive Ann Garvey.

"It has been a traumatic year for the club and it's unfortunate that this has probably had a knock-on effect on his testimonial.

"We have not been able to do a lot for him due to everything that's gone on behind the scenes but we would like his year to finish with a bit of a bang and urge all supporters to come to this event."

Meanwhile, the current members of the Wasps' supporters club committee are seeking new personnel to join up for the 2001-02 season and help the club move forward.

Fan Michael Chatten said: "With the Wasps' new era of sponsorship with the New York Economic Development Council and many others, this is an ideal opportunity for fans to boost the committee.

"If there was ever a time to get behind the Wasps then this is it."

Anyone interested can contact either Michael Chatten tel 07703 344306 after 6pm weekdays or anytime at weekends, or Louise Ince tel 07754 696905 for further details.

Another option is to turn up for the next club meeting to be held at Huntington Stadium, at 8pm this Thursday.
