A COMPUTER hacker has put anti-USA messages on City of York Council's internet site.
The authority was forced to close down the site after finding it had been hacked into and that obscenities had been scrawled on it.
Internet security is being reviewed after the attack.
A council spokesman said: "I can confirm that the site has been taken offline after a malicious hacker defaced it with badly-spelled anti-American graffiti.
"It will be closed today while we repair it, and we are reviewing security arrangements. This has never happened before, and it was totally unexpected."
The site provides information about the council and its services.
