THIS gigantic Wells catfish, weighing in at 115lbs, was the reward for York angler Chas Burns on a recent fishing trip to Spain.
It took him 25 minutes to land it when fishing near on a stretch of the river Ibro near Salou, which is south of Barcelona. He used a ten-foot rod and the giant stripped out about 150 foot of line after being hooked.
Burns, of Hooks and Tackle fishing tackle shop, Huntington Road, York, goes on fishing trips to Spain a couple of times each year.
The Ibro is known mainly for catfish and carp, plus sanders, mullet and black bass. In this country he concentrates on fly fishing.
"It's the biggest one I've ever caught," he said. "Anything over a ton is reckoned to be a huge catch.
"Anyone who would like information about fishing the Ibro is welcome to contact me and I will give them all the details," said Burns.
Call to see him at the tackle shop or ring him on York (01904) 610357.
