A MAN and a woman from York were today starting jail sentences after admitting a serious offence against a child.
Rebecca Kirkwood, 25, of Fenwick Street, and Darren Brough, 19, of Field View, Clifton, were branded "utterly callous individuals" by Judge Paul Hoffman when they appeared before him at York Crown Court.
The judge said scarcely a square inch of the child's body was free from injury.
Kirkwood and Brough were each sentenced to 12 months in jail for the offence in relation to the child.
Kirkwood also received another month in jail for shoplifting and a further month for breaching a probation order, making a total of 14 months.
