John Quinn, who was on the mark at Newcastle yesterday with Taras Emperor, can follow-up at Doncaster tomorrow in the richest race on the card.

The Settrington trainer, who is enjoying a fine campaign, saddles Captain Venti in the £30,000 DBS October Yearling Stakes and this mud-loving juvenile is strongly fancied to notch his third win of the season.

A bargain-buy at just 2,000 guineas, Captain Venti has more than paid his way this term.

Far from disgraced on his latest outing at Goodwood, which followed an excellent fourth-placed effort in a hot nursery on this course at the St Leger meeting, Captain Venti reverts to six furlongs from seven tomorrow.

But the shorter distance, especially on the prevailing soft ground, should not count against him and, with Robert Winston in the saddle, a bold bid is anticipated from my Nap selection.

Ryedale trainers Richard Fahey and John Wainwright can figure on the scoreboard with recent winners. Fahey saddles Catterick scorer Chemicalattraction in the Thorne Handicap, while Wainwright relies on Flying Tackle, a Redcar winner last Friday, in the Autumn Apprentice Handicap.

At Newbury, the Group 3 £35,000 Vodafone Horris Hill Stakes could well be within the scope of Rapscallion, who, as tough as they come, has rattled-up a hat-trick of wins in lesser company.

He should make a bold bid tomorrow for trainer James Eustace and jockey Jason Tate, a duo who rarely get the opportunity of winning a Pattern race.
