Poppleton 'A' team lead division one of Focus Fireplaces York and District Table Tennis League after beating league champions Sessions 'A' 7-3, their heaviest defeat for a long time.

Both teams were at full strength. Mark Smith, who, along with Richard Moss, was unbeaten set Poppleton on the path to victory by beating Mick Wilcockson 21-15, 21-16.

Mark Hughes beat Nigel Thorn 21-15, 21-14 to put Poppleton two up. Moss, Mark Smith and Moss again added to Poppleton's lead before Chris Nichols scored for Sessions. Poppleton won the next two before Sessions took two.

Sessions 'A' made easy work of Coneysthorpe 'A', winning 9-1.

Doug Bartle won three for York RI 'B' but they went down 4-6 to Coneysthorpe 'A'.

John Wooldridge was unbeaten for Bootham Conservative Club 'B' in a 5-5 draw with their 'A' team.

York RI 'A' won the doubles to beat Coneysthorpe 'B' 6-4. Richard Crowther won three for York RI 'A' in a 5-5 draw with their 'B' team. Martin Hood won three to help INL 'B' draw 5-5 with their 'A' team.

Poppleton 'B' head division two after winninga close match with York RI 'D'. Dave Rawlings won three for Poppleton, including beating John Elliott 19-21 21-16 21-11. Elliott was unbeaten as York RI 'D' drew 5-5 with Sessions 'B'.

Jill Schofield and Dave Robinson each won three to help Nestl Rowntree 'B' beat BT 'A' 8-2 to move second in the table.

Martin Symons won three to help INL 'C' beat Bootham Conservative Club 'C' 7-3.

York RI 'C' beat Sessions 'B' 6-4 but three good wins for Keith Elsegood helped keep Sessions in the match until the end.

A marvellous performance by Dave Boothroyd helped Northern Electric draw 5-5 draw Fulford Road WMC 'B'.

Poppleton teams are one, two and three in division three.

Leaders Poppleton 'C' beat York Police 9-1 and Chris Armstrong and Jack Kyprian each won three as Poppleton 'C' beat Terry's 7-3.

Malcolm Haswell won three for Coneysthorpe 'C' in their 5-5- draw with second-placed Poppleton 'D'.

Third-placed Poppleton 'E' won the doubled to beat the Police 6-4.

Fulford Road WMC 'C' scored their first win of the season, beating York RI 'E' 7-3. Peter Griffiths won three for RI.

A shell-shocked Shepherds 'A' lost 7-3 to Coneysthorpe 'C', who had only two players were 3-0 down.

Dennis Chapman won three for division four leaders York RI 'F' but they were held to a 5-5 draw by INL 'D'.

Second-placed York RI 'G' beat Norwich Union 'B' 7-3. Richard Leafe lost his 100 per cent record when beaten 21-11 13-21 20-22 by Paul Webster.

A clean sweep of singles by Fred Watson and Mick Sigsworth helped Sessions 'C' beat York RI 'I' 9-1.

Paul Gravett and Nigel Baker each won three for Shepherds 'B' in their 6-4 win over York RI 'I'.

York RI 'H' scored their first win of the season, beating Shepherds 'C' 6-4. Mike Melling won three as Shepherds 'S' beat York RI 'I' 8-2.
