YORK'S Sabena Carr won an amazing six gold medals in the North Eastern Counties Masters Swimming Championship at Scarborough.

She mastered the 65 to 69 age group with victory in the 100m freestyle (1min 46.69secs), 200m freestyle (3mins 46.43secs), 50m butterfly (57.42 secs), 100m butterfly (2mins 11.78secs), 200m butterfly (4mins 51.25secs), 100m individual medley (2mins 3.77secs) and 100m freestyle relay (1min 12.82secs).

Her team-mates in the relay were Pat Baxter, who also won the 70 to 74 years 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke events, Nadine Thrower, who was victorious in the 25 to 29 years 50m butterfly and third in the 100m backstroke, and Jacqie Robinson who took bronze in the 35 to 39 years age group.

Carol Brown completed the York women's medal haul with bronze in the 50 to 54 years 50m freestyle.

The Scarborough meeting provided the York swimmers with an opportunity to warm up for the England National Masters in Sheffield.

York's men were also on the medal trail with Tim Redman winning the 50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley in the 60 to 64 years section as well as finishing second in the 50m butterfly and third in the 50m freestyle.

Duncan Brown struck gold in the 50m butterfly for 50 to 54-year-old swimmers and was second in the 50m freestyle.

Peter Kendrew completed York's 14-gold tally in the 60 to 64 years 50m backstroke, while James Hubbard (25 to 29 years) won silver in the 200m backstroke and bronze in the 100m of the same discipline.
