WHO says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
Butch, the Jack Russell cross, made a mockery of the saying when he helped raise £500 for the RSPCA.
He looked a picture dressed up as a clown, alongside owner Ann Mitchell, when the two spent an hour in Coppergate collecting for the animal charity.
Ann, of Fulford, York, said she was delighted to have raised so much charity cash.
And she revealed the pair were already thinking up new ways to help other needy organisations.
"When I take Butch out I dress him up with a sun hat and people are drawn to him. So I thought about this and decided we could collect for charity," she said.
"Butch loves all the attention he gets. If he didn't like it, I wouldn't ask him to do it. I am very pleased to have raised £500.
"Now I am considering another charity collection some time in the future."
