New Earswick Ladies had a superb 86-85 win in the North Eastern League against Hornsea as home rinks took the honours at both venues.

The Huntington Road outfit held the initiative after ten ends when they led on aggregate 40-28 but the Hornsea Ladies tied the scores at 60-60. Fortunately, a 19-10 burst put New Earswick in the driving seat and although Hornsea's Betty Salvidge's rink scored 11 shots over the last three ends it wasn't enough to thwart a New Earswick victory.

At home, Peggy Walker's rink scored five fours on their way to an easy 33-14 win.

Margaret Moss' team also had a fine 28-18 win scoring a crucial six when only leading by one at 12-11 and then an even more decisive seven as the visitors cut the gap to 18-17.

At Hornsea, Moyra Headley's rink narrowed the gulf to within two shots at 15-13 with two ends to play but unfortunately lost them and subsequently the game 18-13.

In the other rink, Lys Jerrum's team struggled. Only one shot behind at 8-7 after nine ends they won only two of the remaining 12 ends in a 25-12 defeat. New Earswick's Ladies picked up six points to Hornsea's four.

In the same league, York and District Ladies were brought down to earth with a bump from a heavy defeat at the hands of North Cave.

After 15 ends the York Ladies appeared to have pulled themselves back into the game, narrowing the deficit to nine shots in a game which had been dominated by their opponents.

But it was only a minor blip as North Cave scored 26 shots to one against to put the game beyond doubt at 88-54 with three ends to play. The final score was 96-68 in their favour with maximum points from victories in all four rinks.
