BOSSES at Flamingo Land are facing legal action for siting caravans at the park without seeking permission.

The siting of the 36 caravans, which were spotted on a routine visit by planners, has prompted the theme park to seek retrospective planning permission.

But planning officers are urging councillors to reject the application and allow planning officers to force the park to move them.

A report by Ryedale District Council planning officers claims the caravans, which are used for the park's seasonal workers, are a significant intrusion on the open countryside.

It adds that the park has given no justification for the caravans, which the report adds are poorly screened, being sited where they are.

The application has attracted opposition from a former Ryedale resident, Dennis Cockerill, from Kent.

"The Flamingo Land sprawl is a sight which many people consider an offence to the Ryedale countryside," he said.
