YORK RI Ladies scored a 9-0 home win over old rivals Clifton in division one of the York Badminton League. Nicola Coggins and Karen Wedgwood took the Institute honours for a total of 90-19 taken in straight sets.

Market Weighton Ladies visited Knavesmire in division two and were rewarded with a 6-3 win. Sue Durston and Sue Smith were in sparkling form for Weighton with three straight wins for 90-49, including a 10 and 6 over Bev Thorpe and Anne Hopwood, who took two wins for the home side.

James Crall and Ben Pawley starred for the University Students' Men's 'A' team as they won 7-2 away at Rowntrees in men's one. Crall and Pawley returned 92-43 from three straight wins, including a 17-14, 15-10 over Geoff Whittaker and Mark Barker, Rowntree's best pairing on the night.

Clifton 'A' scored two convincing wins in men's two, a 7-2 home win over Selby Jubilee was followed by a 9-0 success at Millthorpe. Ian Shore and Daniel Woolfson took Clifton maximums in both matches for a six-rubber total of 190-84.

Riverside were good value for a 5-4 home win over Rowntrees 'A' in mixed one. Geoff Oxley and Gwen Bentley took the home honours with three wins for 103-68, while third pairing of Tricia Fowler and Ian McInlay sealed the win bonus points.

Pocklington 'A' scored a morale boosting 7-2 away win over Easingwold in mixed three. Barry Johnson and Sue Percival played to form to notch three wins for 99-62.

St John's put in two good mixed four displays to record a 9-0 home win over Pocklington 'B' followed by a 6-3 home result over Tadcaster 86. Lindsay Spicer and Rob Metcalf took maximums in both matches.

YUSC 'A' just got the better of Fulfordgate 'A' by a 5-4 margin in mixed four.

Matt Hobman and Maureen Medlar took three Fulfordgate wins for a total of 94-74, but YUSC kept their nerve to win the final rubber in which Paul Waites and Lynn Terry beat Gary Hall and Hazel Winfield 7-15 15-8 15-8.

Drax 'E' beat Knavesmire 'B' 7-2 at Selby High School in mixed five. Knavesmire could only field one pairing but nevertheless John Major and Bev Thorpe managed two wins for Knavesmire, just losing out 16-17 15-5 10-15 to S Firth and L Johnson.

In mixed six Selby Jubilee 'B' scored an easy 9-0 home win over Pocklington 'C'.
