FOX hunting groups in North Yorkshire which would normally now be preparing for their first meeting of the season are being forced to occupy themselves with other activities.

Many restrictions imposed at the start of the year are still in force, preventing hunting groups from carrying on with their normal pursuits.

Frank Houghton-Brown, Middleton Hunt master, said he and his members would normally start the hunting season on November 10.

"Instead we are going to hold a social event in Birdsall with a fireworks display," he said.

"There really isn't anything we can do until the foot and mouth restrictions are lifted."

Patrick Till, master of the Sinnington Hunt, said his members would also normally be starting on November 10.

"Hunts usually start at different times around this time of year - instead we are planning to hold an social function," he said.

"We have been exercising the dogs using bicycles."
