LEEDS United will tackle Swiss club Grasshoppers Zurich in the third round of the UEFA Cup.

The draw, made in Geneva today, means David O'Leary's side will travel to Switzerland on Thursday, November 22 with the return leg at Elland Road a fortnight later.

Leeds scraped past French side Troyes 6-5 on aggregate last night while Grasshoppers put out Dutch side Twente Enschede by the same aggregate score.

Leeds have played Swiss opposition before when they defeated FC Zurich on their way to the 1975 European Cup final.

Top ties of the round include Celtic v Spanish giants Valencia, Ipswich against Inter Milan and Rangers v Paris St Germain.

Leeds certainly made hard work of disposing of Troyes, the French minnows who made sure the biggest game in their short history lived up to its billing.

The small town club, whose remarkable 'Wimbledon-esque' rise through the French League system over the past few seasons has been a fairytale, so nearly embarrassed O'Leary's multi-million pound team.

Although O'Leary was without influential skipper Rio Ferdinand, Bowyer, Woodgate, Michael Bridges and Lucas Radebe, Leeds should not have come so precariously close to bowing out of the competition, losing 3-2 on the night, but winning 6-5 on aggregate.

The UEFA Cup draw: Paok Salonika v PSV Eindhoven, Fiorentina v Lille, Valencia v CELTIC, Servette Geneva v Hertha Berlin.

IPSWICH v Inter Milan, Paris St Germain v Rangers, Feyenoord v Freiburg, AEK Athens v Liteks Lovech.

Grasshoppers Zurich v LEEDS UNITED, Brondby v Parma, Bordeaux v Roda JC, Slovan Liberec v Real Mallorca.

Happeol Tel Aviv v Lokomotiv Moscow, Copenhagen v Borussia Dortrmund, Sporting Lisbon v AC Milan, Brugges v Lyon.

Memories of Leeds' deadly UEFA Cup confrontation with Galatasaray were revived in the draw for the Champions League second stages made in Geneva today.

Liverpool were pitted against the Turkish champions in group 'B' alongside Italian giants Roma and Primera Liga titans Barcelona.

Two Leeds fans - Kevin Speight and Christopher Loftus - were stabbed to death during United's semi-final trip to Turkey two seasons ago leading to crowd trouble outside Elland Road in the return meeting.

Galatasaray went on to win the semi-final and beat Arsenal in the final, where trouble flared again.

En route to their UEFA Cup final triumph last season Liverpool accounted for both Barcelona and Roma, but their biggest worry will be the prospect of encountering Galatasaray's notorious fans.

Manchester United meanwhile were pitted against reigning champions Bayern Munich, whom United beat in their epic 1999 final to complete an unprecedented treble.

Arsenal's draw propelled them into the same group as Deportivo la Coruna.

The four Champions League groups are:

Group 'A': Bayern Munich, Nantes, Manchester United, Boavista.

Group 'B': Barcelona, Liverpool, Galatasaray, Roma.

Group 'C': Real Madrid, Panathanaikos, FC Porto, Sparta Prague.

Group 'D': Juventus, Deportivo La Coruna, Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen.
