KNAVESMIRE Harriers enjoyed a golden day in 'Last of the Summer Wine' country.
The 34th Holmfirth 15 was won by Dave Watson (Holmfirth Harriers) in 78min 36secs using his local knowledge of the testing course to pull away from a very strong field of top athletes.
But Knavesmire Harriers men's veterans' team of Alan Beavers, Neil Strange and Barry Atkinson put in a superb performance to win the Yorkshire Veterans' team gold medals, with Alan Beavers also winning the men's O/40 gold.
The veterans almost pulled off a sensation 'Open' team victory, just losing out to pre-race favourites - and hosts - Holmfirth Harriers by only three points.
Knavesmire's ladies also ran well.
There were excellent performances from Christine Shouksmith, who finished fifth overall and Margaret Sharkie, who collected the gold medal in the ladies O/60 section.
