THE British Army officer who died in a helicopter crash while serving in Sierra Leone was laid to rest with full military honours after a funeral service near York.
Major Vanessa Lang, 40, who worked as an Army press officer, was killed on a routine reconnaissance flight last month.
Her funeral was held yesterday at St Wilfrid's Garrison Church in Strensall, and she was buried at nearby Haxby Cemetery. The coffin was carried in to the church to the strains of a lone piper.
Lt Col Sue Westlake, a friend and colleague, paid tribute to Major Lang at the funeral service.
Major Lang, who was widowed, was based in Shrewsbury and her family live in Haxby.
She was killed on October 19 when the Mi-24 helicopter, in which she was a passenger, crashed near the town of Kenema.
