HARROGATE diver Emma Teather has fought off injury to concentrate on her bid to be chosen to compete in the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

The 17-year-old A-Level student at Harrogate Ladies College has won a number of titles since she took up the sport of diving ten years ago.

And following a wrist injury and operation earlier this year - plus a severe bout of tonsillitis - Teather is now back in training three hours a day, six days a week in a bid to be successful at the trials early next year.

"She has had a very difficult year," said her mother, Linda.

"Her wrist injury took a long time to be diagnosed properly, but she's now looking forward to getting back into top form.

"Despite her injury and lack of preparation, Emma still succeeded in coming sixth at the ASA National Age Group Championships in the summer."

The City of Leeds diver has previously represented Britain at the European Junior Championship, the World Junior Championships and Grand Prix International at Sheffield, while she has been part of the ASA Junior Olympic Diving Development Squad for four years running.

Teather also won two bronze medals at the National Championships (senior) on the springboard.
