AFTER an uncertain start to their campaign Nestl Rowntree moved into pole position in division one of the John Smith's York Sunday Morning League with a 5-2 home win over Marcia.

Cooper, Osborne, Jones, Waine and an own goal were the scorers.

Severus WMC now lie in second place as they continued their climb up the league with a 4-2 win over FC Magnet courtesy of goals from Depa, Jones, Powell and McShane, Barker and Downes replying for Magnet.

Hounds and Wigginton shared eight goals in their clash. Cygan hit a hat-trick with Rhodes adding the other for Hounds, while Adam Wash responded with three for Wigginton with Reid scoring the other.

Only one match survived in division two and that saw Shipton defeat Riccall 7-0 with Myers, Pratt and Griffiths all scoring twice, Russell netting the other.

In division three BH Colts travelled to leaders The Mount and came away with a fine 4-1 victory courtesy of goals from Rank (2), Small and Willmoth, Henderson scoring for The Mount.

Del Neaves gave Copmanthorpe the lead at home to Thorpe United but it was short-lived as Singleton (2), Smith (2) and Emery gave the visitors a 5-1 victory.

Bishopthorpe raced into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes through Russell and Turner before Shaun Hodgson pulled one back in the second half for Wilberfoss and only some fine goalkeeping from Andy Henk ensured Bishops held on to all three points.

Otis Bar moved up to third with a 3-2 win over Beeswing, Tinson (2) and Shepherdson the scorers.

In the game of the day in division four, Acomb Celtic held the lead for most of the match at Hemingbrough and with John Kennelly scoring three and Ian Hufton one must have thought the points were theirs with a 4-2 advantage and only 15 minutes remaining.

But Hemingbrough never gave up and Taylor scored his second of the game to reduce the arrears and substitute Harrison then levelled matters at 4-4.

With time running out Collins chipped the goalkeeper only to see the ball come back off the bar, but Harrison was first to react and he steered the ball home for a 5-4 victory.

Wigginton Grasshoppers now have a seven-point lead at the top after a 2-0 win over promotion rivals York Nomads, Coates and Murphy the scorers.

Black Bull travelled to Raskelf and came away with a 5-3 win, Dan Lindsey scoring twice. Keystones won 3-2 at Fulford WMC.

Matty Bastock continued his phenomenal scoring record in division five when he hit seven in Opticare's 8-3 win over Knavesmire, who had been level at 2-2 at half-time, Mark James scoring both.

Heworth returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory at Wanderers. Boynton and Stephenson both scored twice as Burnholme hit Sporting CS for six without reply.

With the top three teams in division six all inactive due to the weather, Kings Arms had the chance to return to the top.

However, it was a chance they failed to take as they had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw with CPP, Jones and Humphries with the visitors' goals.

Northern Wall secured only their second league win with a 6-2 victory over Burton Stone. Neil Cutler scored twice.

Roger Lorrains and James Clark scored the goals as Beefeater beat First York 2-0.
