PAUL Turner and Andy Denton were on top form when York RI beat University Students 'A' 9-0 in men's division one of York Badminton League

Turner and Denton totalled 90-57. Students' opening pair M Jones and J Croll played some good badminton without success to record 103-120.

Selby 77 sprang a surprise in men's division two with a 6-3 win away to Selby Jubilee. Dave Hearn and Graham Campbell topped the 77 averages with 92-67, taken in straight sets. They were well supported by Rex Pocklington and Rob Overall, who returned 98-56.

Knavesmire were pushed hard by St John's before winning 5-4 at Poppleton Community Centre. Rob Metcalfe and George Noble scored three wins for St John's for 90-52.

Andy Limbert and Dave Brogden swung the match with 12 and 18 win over Liam Whittington and Colin Micklethwaite.

Drax 'A' scored two wins in mixed division one, 9-0 away at Riverside and then 8-1 away to Clifton 'B'.

Phil Brunyard and Julie Smyth were unbeaten in both matches and totalled 164-75. Clifton's Gerry Screeton and Daniel Woolfson beat Scott Anderson and Gayle Bradley 15-9 5-15 15-8.

Ian Shore and Gill McIntosh sealed a 6-3 win for Clifton 'A' away to Rowntree 'A' with a 12 and 13 victory over Phil Grant and Helen Shepherd. Mark Barker and Joan Emmerson scored two wins for Rowntree 'A'.

Rowntree 'A' had earlier beaten their 'B' team 7-2, Phil Grant and Helen Shepherd totalling 113-71 in three wins for the 'A' team including a 15-8 10-15 15-11 success against over Jeff Whittaker and Brenda Drummond, who took both the 'B' team's wins.

In mixed division two, University Students 'B' were fortunate to win 5-4 at Sheriff Hutton, who were a pairing short and won four of the six rubbers played.

But they had to concede the win bonus points when Sam Gardener and Jo Lands beat Jo Wade and Dave Grieve 8-15 15-10 15-12 to give the Students a winning margin.

Students 'B' had earlier won 7-2 at home to Selby 77. Nick Burton and Caroline Grubb totalled 99-76 in three wins for the students.

Liam Whittington and Angela Sidgreaves laid the foundations for a St John's scoring a 7-2 win against RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' in a mixed division four match in which seven rubbers went to a deciding end.

Whittington and Sidgreaves totalled 106-65 in three wins, including beating Ellen Mooney and Rob Warren 5-13 15-13 15-8.

RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' rallied in their next match to win 6-3 away to Pocklington 'B'.

Karen Wilkinson and Dave Thompson beat Ann Walker and Howard Johnson 0 and 11 to clinch the match for RI. Kevin Chidlow and Jenny Todd totalled 107-68 in three wins for Pocklington.

Drax 'D' scored a surprise 7-2 away win over Tadcaster 86.

Sue Read and Ken Walker totalled 117-82 in three wins, including 14-15 15-8, 15-12 over John Greenhalgh and Marina Harrap, who scored both Tadcasters wins.
