There will be players from the York and Ryedale indoor bowls clubs in the ladies national championships finals at Nottingham next week, writes Ian Clough.

York Indoor Bowls Club's Melanie Brooke, Brenda Love and Trish Stevens are in the triples.

Betty Stubbings and Lynn Metcalfe, from Ryedale, are in the pairs, and their club colleagues Maureen Croser and Eileen Wray are in the unbadged pairs.

York players Carol Instone, Sue Tomlinson, June Clayton and Madge Zimnoch scored a 30-9 victory over a Ryedale team at New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club to reach the Yorkshire Ladies Knockout Competitions fours final.

After losing singles on the first two ends, the York team scored 14 shots over the next four ends to lead 14-2.

Two more singles were dropped before they scored a three then a five to put the game beyond doubt at 22-4 after only ten ends.

Only on one end, the 15th with two, did the Ryedale ladies score more than a single on one end.

York trio Linda Harrison, Betty Richardson and Dot Kennelly beat Lyn Metcalfe's Ryedale team 18-17 to reach the Yorkshire Knockout triples final.

York led from the start up to the penultimate end when Ryedale scored a four to lead for the first time, 17-15, going into the last end where a three gave Harrison's team victory.

There were seven New Earswick club and five York and District club players in the Yorkshire 'A' team who beat Midland Counties 151-139 in a friendly indoor bowls match at New Earswick.

Phil Parsons and Mal Harrison, playing in the same rink, lost 28-19.

Liam Cahill and Barry Johnson won 20-17 after trailing for much of the match.

Stephen Long and Philip Scott won 28-11 in Tony Horobin's rink.

Bill Waldie played second in Tim Wilford's rink, who lost 21-15.

Dave Birch led in Peter Lee's 24-21 winning rink.

Ralph Tiplady and Anthony Scruton played in John Emmerson's rink, who had to 'guest' for Midland Counties and played against Lee's team.

Tony Abbot played at second in Alan Hodges' 19-16 winning rink.

Yorkshire 'B' team, with seven players aged under 18, beat Leicestershire 'B' 168-76 in a friendly indoor bowls match at Thanet Road last weekend.

York's Philip Scott and Liam Cahill, and New Earswick's Barry Johnson, Ray Clark, Dave Birch and Stephen Long. Johnson and Long were in the same team and won 26-15.

Clark and Scott drew their game 20-20.Birch's rink won 34-9. Cahill, playing in Barry Holliday's team, won 28-10.

Alistair and Robert Domville, playing in the same rink, won 29-14 to help Yorkshire Under-18s defeat Leicestershire Under-18s 69-54.
